Get on with your life they said,
but it is not easy I said,
when the memory is not what it used to be,
and there is damage in your head.
Get on with your life they said,
but with anxiety and depression,
and intrusive thoughts,
and a constant battle raging in your head,
It is not easy I said,
not easy for you to pick up the pieces of a shattered life.
because others do not always understand,
the chaos and the disorder,
that mental illness plays,
in an individual’s head,
and everyone is different,
and all the self-help books,
in the world,
never get it totally right.
Get on with your life they said,
but it is not as easy as it looks,
I said,
because with mental illness,
it is a plague upon society,
a plague that ravages humanity,
and it deprives people's lives of days,
and months and years,
that could be much better spent,
that could be,
much better spent.
